Right?
Push Play and hear for yourself.
In this week’s Bright Side Home Theater, Steve and DJ kick off with a lively pre-show banter that spirals from movie hype to British vs. American pronunciation, then dive into a packed slate of home theater reviews and one powerhouse new release. They revisit 80s nostalgia with a shockingly good 4K Atmos remaster of Krull, a first-time watch and strong recommendation for Constantine in 4K Dolby Vision/Atmos, and the found-footage kaiju chaos of Cloverfield, which still delivers room-filling immersion even without Atmos. The guys also hit a disappointment with Beasts of War on Blu-ray and a crowd-pleasing classic in A Nightmare on Elm Street’s 4K Atmos upgrade—vibrant, detailed, and more enveloping than ever. Finally, they spend deep time on the must-watch talk of the week: Kathryn Bigelow’s House of Dynamite on Netflix. It’s a riveting, high-tension docudrama experience with elite Dolby Vision/Atmos execution that begs to be watched alone in a dark room—phones off—then discussed at length. They also preview the upcoming 25-hour live charity stream for Movember, outline a new raffle-style giveaway format with major prizes, and remind listeners about show merch (all proceeds this month going to Movember). Patrons get a post-show hangout and a special edge on one of the big raffle items. Big week, big sounds, bigger conversations—see you at the live stream!
Reviews and quick takes (no spoilers):
- Krull (4K UHD, Dolby Atmos): Surprisingly fantastic remaster—sharp, colorful, and an Atmos mix that’s far better than expected. Pure 80s adventure fun with legit HT chops.
- Constantine (4K DV/Atmos): Moody blacks, excellent HDR highlights, and an enveloping, detailed Atmos track. Not peak reference, but a must-own for home theater fans.
- Beasts of War (Blu-ray): A miss—thin bass, slow-mo shark attacks, and budget visuals. Hard to recommend for HT value.
- Cloverfield (4K HDR10, DTS-HD MA 5.1 upmixed): Still a reference-level roller coaster; the found-footage aesthetic shines in 4K and the mix fills the room with convincing movement and weight.
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) (4K UHD, Dolby Atmos): Dramatic upgrade—hyper-saturated colors, crisp detail, and an enveloping Atmos dome that suits the dream-logic horror.
- House of Dynamite (Netflix, Dolby Vision/Atmos): A top-tier streaming experience—razor-sharp visuals, masterful Atmos design with overhead dialogue and muscular transitions. Watch alone, lights out, phone away. Then discuss.
